Career Pathways to Production in the Film Industry

Riverside City College is hosting panel discussion and Q&A on “Career Pathways to Production in the Film Industry.” The panels, sponsored by the Riverside School for the Arts and the Inland Empire Film Commission, will feature working film industry professionals and will be moderated by Sheri Davis, Director of the IEFC and Dr. Carolyn Quin, Dean of RSA.  The events are free and open to the public.

The panel on June 22 will feature presentations by ALEX HAMILTON on producing commercials and practical principles of filmmaking.  Hamilton, known for her high-budget commercials for Target and other large corporations, will be joined by MARC HLAVATY, a regional graphic artist, who will explain the role of art departments in the film industry and discuss careers available to visual art and technology professionals.  RAJAN SHANDIL, a producer for MTV and a former intern with the IRFC, will demonstrate different types of technology used in film. Another panelist will demonstrate special effects makeup and hair for sci-fi movies.  Panelists will be available after the presentation to talk with audience members about topics ranging from casting and internships, to productions, film cameras, budgeting, lighting, sound, electronic portfolios, film scripts, and storyboarding.

On June 29th at 10am, the grand finale of the series will featuring an expanded panel with all-star industry professionals MARCUS MORTON, producer of the 2004 film, You Got Served JOSEPH G. PACELLI, set designer of Flags of our Fathers,  Million Dollar Baby, and U-571; special effects technician STEVE KING of World Trade Center; and FERN FIELD, producer of the TV Series Monk.

 

 

   

The Career Pathways to Production in the Film Industry panel discussions are free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

Parking is available at the RCC parking structure, located at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Terracina Drive, adjacent to the Digital Library and Learning Resource Center.
